About Reach Out and Read Arizona

The Reach Out and Read Arizona Coalition was established in 2002 and is a coalition of 188 sites serving 121,754 of Arizona's children each year.   Reach Out and Read prepares America's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.  Reach Out and Read Arizona trains medical providers to integrate literacy into well child visits by giving new books to children between the ages of 6 months through 5 years. Annually, our sites give over 226,000 new, developmentally appropriate books to families.  (updated 10-2010).

We are a statewide organization that believes in the critical importance of early literacy development and the proven success of the Reach Out and Read (ROR) model. We are a program of the Arizona Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics and affiliated with the Reach Out and Read National Center.

Our Goal
Our goal is to expand the ROR program to every young child in the state of Arizona. This is best accomplished through a strong central organization that can maximize and distribute resources to recruit, train and support sites—especially in the many small communities of rural Arizona. As a strong unified statewide group we speak with one voice to advocate for early literacy issues and ROR.

We have the expertise and experience in early literacy and the ROR program, and have collaborative relationships with many state agencies as well as local and national organizations. We have credibility and an established presence in the community with the ability to assure the highest quality and coordination of the local ROR Programs.
