National Support

Reach Out and Read® is a nonpartisan organization supported by many health and education champions. Beginning in FY2000, Reach Out and Read National Center has received an appropriation (FY09 $5 million) through the U.S. Department of Education. Reach Out and Read Arizona sites who qualify, receive from 5-20% of their book costs from this national funding. We are thankful to have these friends on Capitol Hill, and look forward to working with them this year in securing this vital funding for Reach Out and Read.

In 2008, we had the distinct privilege of hosting three Congress Members at Arizona ROR sites. Each site hosting a legislator provided a tour of their clinic, an introduction to their ROR program and an opportunity for the legislator to read to children in the waiting room.

2010 Legislative Visits

Pediatricians and nurses at San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. are sending families home from check-ups with free books and a very important prescription – “read aloud to your children.” Representative Grijalva visited the health center, not only to cheer them on, but also to practice what doctors preach by reading to a group of young patients.
